The Polish Heritage Project was spearheaded by Carl S. Brozeski who was choir director and organist. His love for his Polish heritage and its traditions was the driving force behind this project. He saw the need to preserve this part of the Polish culture for future generations. So, with the help of the Assumption B.V.M. Choir, this endeavor began. Because of his foresight, many of the beautiful Polish hymns that we were brought up with are now saved. We saw a real need to transcribe the Polish Hymns that we recorded into a format that would be simple enough to allow anyone to sit down and play them. The old Polskie Spiewniczek is no longer available nor are other Polish hymnals. Most of the hymnals that can yet be found in choir lofts and church libraries were written in a single line format. Since many people today are not able to improvise the accompaniment, this hymnal was formatted in an easy-to-play fashion. The hymns are written in a standard sheet music format: a single, melody line with accompanying chord notations and a standard two hand format. The chord progression in the melody line will allow anyone with the musical background to improvise his/her own accompaniment Learn more about The Polish Heritage Project
here. Dear Parishioners and Friends of Assumption Parish: I am happy to announce that the Assumption B.V.M. Choir's Polish Heritage Project is now complete. It includes 10 recordings which are available in both cassette and CD formats; 8 Lyric Books; 2 Devotional Booklets; and the Centennial Hymnal (spiral hymnal that includes all hymns, and more, that were recorded in the first 8 recordings. The music format is set up for both hands.) The 40-Hours Devotional Booklet also is spiral bound but is set up in the traditional hymnal format (single line music notation with chords and lyrics. These items can only be seen here the Project's website. (Please note that the 'Order Sheet' gives the complete listing of the Project. This Project took 18 years to complete. As a result, a large part of the Polish Religious Heritage is now preserved. To my knowledge there is no other collection of Polish Hymns in the world that goes to the extent of the Assumption Choir's Project. Senator Arlen Spector has been contacted to seek his help in presenting a complete collection of the Project to the Library of Congress. To help off-set expenses, donations and memorials are accepted. A special page has been set up on the Project's website to list any contributions. For your information, attached is a "Press Release" that gives an over-all explanation of the Project and its completion. Also attached is an article that appeared in the Polish-American Journal's Polish Heritage Month Edition this year. Pope John Paul The great was very proud of his Polish Heritage. He told the people "Do not be afraid" and asked that they hold on to its traditions of faith. Your help in promoting this Project will be greatly appreciated.
